The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will End... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that Pluribus would turn into a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Fan Response

One could easily to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to force fed hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Does the creator Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that the writers aren't taking cues by audience theories, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
